Overview

This course equips healthcare professionals with the knowledge and skills needed to identify, address, and prevent unprofessional behaviors among medical team members. Through evidence-informed strategies, real-world examples, and interactive discussion, learners will explore how unprofessional conduct impacts patient safety, teamwork, communication, and the organization’s overall culture of respect. Participants will learn practical approaches for recognizing behaviors that undermine a safe clinical environment and for responding in ways that are constructive, respectful, and aligned with institutional expectations. By strengthening individual and team accountability, this activity supports the development of a more reliable culture of safety, trust, and professionalism—ultimately improving the care experience for patients and the working environment for all team members.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Describe the impact of disrespectful behaviors on culture, team performance, and outcomes of care.
  2. Identify a range of behaviors that undermine a culture of safety and respect.
